Missed our Autumn event? We still have some varieties of our Autumn planting vegetable seeds and plants for sale. They are all easy to grow crops.


Garlic – £2 per bulb

garlic bulbWe have French garlic bulbs, certified to be 99% virus free and fungus free.

Garlic needs a month or more in the ground at a temperature of 10C or less, so Autumn planting gives you the best chance for this.

We also have some varieties that are suitable for planting later, right up until March.

 

Arno (sold out)

  • Winner of RHS Award of Gardening Merit 2004.
  • A good keeper – will store until the Spring following harvesting.
  • Produces the largest bulbs of any long dormancy type.
  • Plant between November and March for harvest late July or August.
  • A white head with pink cloves.
  • High multiplication ratio.

Cristo (sold out)

  • A white garlic head with pale red cloves.
  • Consistent cropper, good size for a long dormancy type.
  • Plant before or after Christmas for harvest in July or August.
  • Winner of RHS Award of Gardening Merit 2004.

Dario (sold out)

  • A newly developed variety, popular with French growers.
  • Plant in October or November for harvest in July.
  • A non-flowering variety which can be strung or plaited.

Sultop (sold out)

  • White head garlic with attractive red clove skins.
  • Plant before or after Christmas for a July or August harvest.
  • A really good keeper – will store until the Spring following harvesting.
  • Has hard stems which flower naturally and can be made into posies.

Thermidrome (sold out)

  • A traditional variety producing large heads and cloves.
  • White head with white clove skins.
  • Plant in October or November for harvest in July.
  • A non-flowering variety which can be strung or plaited.
  • Should keep until the December following harvesting.

Onion sets – 50p for a dozen

Mixed onionsChoose any combination of:

  • Snowball (white onions)
  • Red Cross (red onions) (sold out)
  • Shakespeare (brown onions) (sold out)
  • Mixed onions (sold out)

All these are suitable for Autumn planting outdoors, or for starting off in modules under cover.


Shallot sets – £1 for a dozen

Golden Gourmet shallots – plant outdoors from February or start off in modules in Autumn.


Plants and seeds

We also still have a few:

  • Chard plants
  • Chicory plants
  • Mustard plants
  • Broad bean seed starter packs (12 seeds per packet)

Available in exchange for a small donation.

Please email us at growingnewsome@gmail.com to let us know what you’d like. Our seeds and plants are available for collection from Newsome village or from Huddersfield town centre – or we may be able to deliver if you live locally.
