Christmas vegetables from Stirley Community Farm

veg grown at Stirley Farm

Fancy a locally grown Christmas lunch?

Come down to Stirley Community Farm on Saturday 21st December 2013 to pick up your bag of vegetables from this year’s bumper crop at Stirley, just in time for Christmas dinner!

With the help of a team of volunteers and members of Growing Newsome, the fruit and vegetable gardens at Stirley Community Farm provide local food year-round for community dinners and training and education events, with the ingredients being cooked up in the brand new teaching kitchen on site, which was funded by Veolia Environmental Trust Cre8 project fund.

The vegetables on offer this Christmas have been grown with wildlife in mind, using peat-free composts and fertilisers and no pesticides. Nectar-rich wildflowers have been grown around them, attracting the pollinators in.

On Saturday 21st December 2013 Yorkshire Wildlife Trust staff will be on hand in the newly renovated Cre8 Barn at Stirley Community Farm from 10am to 12noon, to hand out pre-ordered veg bags costing £5. Other Christmas gifts will also be on sale, including bird seed, Christmas cards and home grown preserves from Stirley and Growing Newsome.

If you can’t make it up to the farm on the day, you can also pick up your veg bag at Newsome crossroads (find us under the lych gate, junction of Newsome Road and Jackroyd Lane) at 12.30pm on the same day.

Please order your Christmas veg bag in advance
Veg bags are only available by pre-order. To purchase your bag containing parsnips, cabbage, celery, Jerusalem artichokes, onion, baby Brussels sprouts, kale and beetroot please ring 01484 663185.

Veg bags will not be available for purchase on the day, although you’re welcome to drop in at the farm on the morning to buy bird seed, cards and home grown preserves.
